Abstract

For most readers this chapter will be revision of material previously covered. It can be described as simple statics. This means that we are only concerned with the mechanics of forces applied to bodies which are not moving. They are said to be in statical equilibrium. Although much of this material may be familiar, it is worth ensuring that you fully understand it because it is fundamental to the rest of the book.
