Abstract

‘In Hertford, Hereford and Hampshire, hurricanes hardly ever happen’. But typhoons, hurricanes, cyclones, blizzards, droughts, floods and earthquakes occur relatively frequently in other parts of the world, particularly the third world, where loss of life and damage to property can be on an enormous scale.
