Abstract
AUPELF is an international non-governmental association in consultative and associate relations with Unesco which groups together institutions of higher education whose medium of instruction is French. It has as its main aim the development of an international conscience and spirit of cooperation to serve cultural pluralism and scientific progress. To this end, it carries out, among others, the following tasks: the constant reflection on the evolution of the university, on its role and place in national and international life, as well as on the structure and facilities; the promotion of the meeting of cultures and the role of the university in socio-cultural development; the circulation of scientific information between member institutions; the assurance of services to members and means of promoting multilateral exchange, notably through the “Fonds internationale de Coopération universitaire (FICU)”; the organization of a cultural, scientific and technical French-speaking framework in the light of co-development. In 1987, AUPELF was endowed with the additional structure of a “University of French-speaking Networks” (UREF).
