The women in this section come from different walks of life, are of different ages and have different experiences. What they have in common is that they are all, in their different ways, strong women who have thought about their lives and about what it means to be a woman in southern Africa today, and who have struggled to create a better life for themselves and their children. I have done very little editing of the interviews, the words are as they were spoken to me. In the chapters that follow, I have tried to explore further some of the issues these women raise.
