Abstract

Heinrich Conried of Bielitz, Silesia, a former actor trained in Vienna with many years’ experience in New York as impresario for German-language theaters, became the new general manager of the Metropolitan Opera, a post he would hold for five terms. Felix Mottl, an associate of Wagner at Bayreuth, was listed in the season prospectus as general music director, making his company debut conducting Die Walküre.
