Abstract
Both shipping and tourism are export-oriented sectors of great importance to the Greek economy as illustrated inter alia by their contribution to its foreign exchange earnings. In 1988, foreign exchange earnings from shipping and tourism amounted respectively to US$ 1382 million and US$ 2396 million, representing 18 per cent and 31 per cent of the balance of trade deficit.
