Abstract
Facilities Management (“FM”) is a broad term which covers the provision to a user of the services of managing computer, data processing and/or telecommunications network resources. The growth in recent years of FM services reflects less any specific technical developments than the increasing complexity of managing effectively the data processing function. The motives for “contracting out” responsibility for the provision of such resources to an outsider are various; they include lack of in house expertise, difficulty in hiring suitable staff, predictable costing, and establishing control over the data processing function.
