Abstract
As seen in Chapter 6, both the number and value of biotechnology-related business deals between Japan and the United States are significant, and roughly comparable with those between the United States and Western Europe. For U.S. companies interested in either initiating or expanding their international business, there are two obvious choices, the EEC and Japan. Japan is generally considered a more difficult and laborious choice but it is important as a market, and as a source of both investment and technology.
