Abstract
Much of our knowledge of molecular genetics, including genetic fine structure, mechanisms of recombination, the machinery of DNA replication and protein synthesis and, more recently, the development of recombinant DNA technology and gene cloning, has come from experimental studies using bacteria and their viruses (phages).
