Abstract
This chapter looks at the whole range of applications associated with the processing of text. The first section describes word processing, its uses and the advantages that it possesses over typing. The next three sections look at the main steps in processing a text document on a computer: creating and correcting the text (editing), storing the text on computer files, and printing the final document. Section 2.5 describes an additional feature of many word processing systems, that of a spelling checker using a dictionary stored on disk.
