Abstract

In a book about Refrigeration, it is essential to include a chapter on controls. However, there are good reasons to limit its extent. Firstly, if any particular aspect of refrigeration technology can be singled out because of its rapid pace of development, it is that of controls. Developments in electronics and data technology quickly make any detailed descriptions of controls and controlling systems outdated. Secondly, it is easy to obtain up-to-date documentation, leaflets, brochures and manuals from the manufacturers of such equipment, and the reader is recommended to do this. This chapter therefore merely surveys the essential features of control systems and indicates where improvements would be desirable. The examples and diagrams are included just to illustrate general principles and applications.
