Abstract
As the nation’s business voice, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) speaks for some 250,000 firms, together employing more than half the nation’s workforce. Its prime function is to ensure that its members’ problems and requirements are fully understood at Westminster and Whitehall, and also increasingly in Brussels, the seat of the European Commission, and in Strasbourg, where the European Parliament meets. At the same time, the CBI tries to promote “best practice” throughout British business — on every aspect of doing business from management development to employee involvement.
