Abstract

There will soon be over 52 million young people between the ages of 15 and 24 in the European Community. These young men and women form the backbone of an ever closer European union and provide the skilled resources for European Industry and Commerce. For many of these young people, their first experiences of Europe will occur whilst they are taking a higher education course. The student who takes full advantage of the opportunities on offer, such as a sponsored trip in Europe, or debating current European issues with leading opinion formers, gains in both confidence and knowledge. Consequently, young people become ‘natural’ Europeans and mix better with other European professionals.
