Abstract

Victor Vasarely, one of the co-founders of the Op-Art school of art, writes here of the criticisms of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Beaubourg. This ultramodern building, with its steel and glass, its external pipes and an escalator snaking up its side, was designed by an Englishman and an Italian, but the inspiration for its existence came from Georges Pompidou, President of France from 1969 to 1974, who was a great lover of the arts.
