Abstract

The winter of 1946 was not as cold as the frozen winter of 1947, but it was cold enough. There was very little fuel, and we sat around in the Oxford Union in our overcoats, warming our hands at little paraffin heaters. The debates, however, were of remarkable quality for an undergraduate debating society at any time.
