Summary
NC Graphics (Cambridge) Ltd is a software house that has been developing CADCAM systems for over twelve years. TDM 3000 is a manufacturing system developed for programming multi-axis CNC machine tools. This paper will concentrate on one aspect of this work, namely how users who have received geometry written to a neutral format are able read the data into TDM 3000. The various stages from the designer outputting the data in a neutral format through to the production of suitable cutter location data will be considered. Attention will be paid to the problems that CAD/CAM data exchange has created and the solutions that the authors have implemented.
