Simulation, A Tool for Developing Fms Control Programs

  • Chapter
Proceedings of the Twenty-eighth International

Summary

In computer integrated production systems for example FMS systems and production cells the control system plays a very important role. A new approach in the development of control software is presented and documented. The concept behind the new approach is based on simulation. Simulation can be a very efficient tool when developing the control programs. This paper describes how the specifications of the control program can be derived step by step by making more and more detailed simulation experiments to analyse different control logics. Optimization of a crane system for a plating facility by simulation is discussed and it is shown the vendors specifications were unattainable. And what really is the new topic is that the simulation program itself is coupled tp the physical system and in that way is going to be the heart of the control system. A prototype system SIMCON, where this approach has been proven, is discussed. By this prototype a detailed production schedule can be generated by simulation and the production itself, can be controlled by the same program. Potential industrial applications are described and a work plan and a budget for the development from prototype to an industrial solution is presented.
