Summary
At UMIST, a knowledge based expert process planning system for turned components has been developed. The system is called EXCAP (EXpert Computer-Aided Process-planning system). It is able to producing automatically a process plan. To maintain the quality of the machined component, an inspection planning system is being integrated with EXCAP. This paper describes the knowledge representation for inspection planning in the knowledge base of EXCAP, and focuses on the notation for representing knowledge and problem representation.
