The Application of Relational Database Management System Software in the Creation of an Intelligent Process Planning System

  • Chapter

Summary

A Data Base Management System (DBMS) is a necessary and central part of a Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) information system. In this paper a subset of CIM information, process planning knowledge, is formalized using the relational database model, which demonstrates the flexibility and the ease with which data can be manipulated using this approach. This model is then developed to form the framework of an intelligent process planning system within the relational data hase management system software environment, and a case study is discussed.
