Chapter

Abstract

The preceding modules have emphasised the importance of the fundamental principles of book-keeping and accounting, and these will always remain constant but, as a result of the ever-increasing volume of business, alternative methods have been introduced of recording and storing the essential information. The first machine accounting systems were introduced many years ago and these significantly reduced many of the time-consuming operations of recording information, which had previously been hand-written in bound ledgers.
