Abstract
Although the first to be published, Where Angels Fear to Tread was not the first novel Forster attempted. This may help explain the confident sophistication of this early work which appeared when Forster was only twenty-six. An account of the plot will show how far removed it is from the comparatively simple narrative of Maurice.
