Abstract

From a German point of view, thinking in operational categories is tied to the unequivocal defence mission mandated by our constitution and that of the Alliance, as well as to the frame of reference established by the Alliance and its political and strategic goals. The uppermost goal of the Alliance’s strategy, as in the nuclear age it must be, remains the prevention of war, of any kind of war, and the preservation of our political freedom of action in the face of militarily backed power politics.
