Abstract

This chapter is intended to introduce the reader to the methods used for writing programs on Apollo workstations. The chapter begins with an introduction to ‘shell scripts’. These are files containing any of the commands which would normally be entered at the dollar prompt within a shell window. The techniques used to compile and bind Pascal, C and Fortran programs are also outlined. A basic knowledge of these languages is assumed.
