Abstract

Angela Plume first attracted notice with a short yet instructive commentary on the organisation of the traditional ward round, which appeared in the Nursing Times on the 13th September 1985.

Nurses of all ages and outlooks warmed to the simplicity and practicality of her advice, and she has since become a national figure.

Today Sister Plume’s writings embrace all aspects of nursing — and human — experience. But it is appropriate to begin this anthology with a series of pieces which deal didactically with basic nursing practice and ward management. The following pages provide a comprehensive introduction to the essentials of nursing, and will prove equally fascinating to the student or experienced nurse.
