Abstract

Previous chapters have been primarily concerned with describing and trying to make sense of ‘real life’ developments in British politics. The focus in Part Three of this book is on mapping the debates among academic authors about political institutions and processes. Political science is an inherently multi-theoretical discipline. On questions of interpretation and evidence, there are a number of rival approaches. Some controversies concern only one aspect of the political process. Others form building blocks in much broader patterns of political argument.
