Abstract

To conclude the discussion of the theory of tariffs (with the exception of the preferential tariff arrangements tackled in the following chapter), this chapter is devoted to a brief analysis of various arguments which are usually advanced in support of protection as a general policy stance. In a sense, the discussion is about the non-arguments referred to in Chapter 8. Before embarking on this, however, the chapter begins with a consideration of the tariff as a source of revenue.
