Abstract

The range of systems and processes where surface characteristics are of primary importance is vast. Adhesion, ore flotation, detergency, heterogeneous catalysis, wetting, lubrication, emulsions and foams are just a few subject areas where surface science is of central importance. Most biological processes take place at surfaces.
