Abstract

Beezie and I came back to Paris after a week’s vacation in Brussels and lived in the same building on rue de la Tour d’Auvergne. I had a lot of trouble with taxi drivers when I lived on this street. I couldn’t speak much French and like many of the lazy American musicians in Paris at that time, I didn’t try too hard to learn the language. Sometimes when I wanted to take a taxi home, I would have to ask three or four drivers before I could find one who understood me. I would say the name of the street to him the same as I had said it to the others and by luck he would understand.
