Abstract

The collection and assessment of laboratory data are closely linked since the form for laboratory results should also be designed to collect the clinical trialists opinion of the cause of any abnormal results. The main purpose of laboratory examinations in studies is to detect any adverse effect of the drug on the body. Areas which require special investigation may be indicated by the underlying disease, side effects of drugs of the same class, the pharmacology of the drug and the results of animal toxicology.
