Abstract

We briefly review those aspects of tissue degeneration which are directly relevant to magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. The term ‘tissue degeneration’ is broad in scope and relatively ill-defined. Here we consider specifically ageing and degeneration of connective tissue. This chapter also describes a new method of analysing clinical data which maximizes the discriminative information available from magnetic resonance images. Most of the information available in magnetic resonance and other forms of clinical imaging is currently not being utilized.
