Abstract
The following bibliography of George Hugh Nicholas Seton-Watson (1916–84) indicates better than any eulogy both the calibre and quality of his written output. The 400 or so items presented here include twelve books and over 275 articles. This list is of necessity incomplete; many of Professor Seton-Watson’s early writings in The Economist and other journals were either uncredited, or attributed ‘To a Correspondent in the Balkans’ or something similar. In the compilation of this work, use was made of Professor Seton-Watson’s personal files, which alleviated somewhat the problems of authorship. The arrangement is chronological by year and month. Reprints and translations are included in so far as they are known; European translations are listed by their titles; however, the compiler has insufficient command of Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Urdu to note more than the bare essentials of these renditions. Perhaps the final comment on the quality of Professor Seton-Watson’s writings would be the fact that, of his major books, the majority are still in print. Lector, si monumentum requiris, circumspice.
