Abstract
As Colonel Light left Alexandria, Barker reported that the Acre expedition was again under consideration, and that it would depart on 20 August.3 Cholera now broke out, however, and the severity of the epidemic suspended the projected expedition. As Mehmet waited for the contagion to abate, he continued to look for outside support: ‘there are every day fresh indications that the Viceroy is in correspondence and alliance with the rebels in Albania and Bosnia...’.4
