Abstract

Most new drug development takes place in developed countries. Naturally, much of the research takes place in the ‘Western World’, from the discovery of an original compound, or improved variant of an old one, through the laboratory and animal and human clinical pharmacology. However, in recent years Japan has made major contributions, particularly in the area of new compound synthesis.
