Abstract
It is as obvious that something important happened in the arts towards the end of the eighteenth century as it has proved difficult to fix on any adequate description of what that something was. This will not be one of the many books that confront this problem, but it is a book about nineteenth-century poetry, and such books always assume some account of Romanticism.
