Differential Scanning Calorimetry Studies of the Interaction of Antidepressant Drugs, Noradrenaline and Serotonin with a Membrane Model

Abstract

The idea of protein receptors plays an important role in biochemistry. The concept of ‘structural complementarity’ between an exogenous or endogenous molecule and the protein binding site(s) is now well established. This requirement will be designated by ‘structural specificity’. We will develop here a complementary point of view, based on the existence of ‘thermodynamic specificity’. It may be explained by considering the example of noradrenaline (NA), serotonin (5-HT) and four antidepressant drugs (midalcipran, citalopram, indalpine, and imipramine), blockers of the uptake of the above endogenous neuromediators.
