Abstract
Defence systems of the body The body is continuously being invaded by micro-organisms, primarily bacteria and viruses, which enter via the body’s orifices, including the mouth and nose. They will also enter wounds. These pathogens either feed on the tissues or release toxic chemicals into the blood stream and bring about disease.
