Abstract
The term ‘geriatrics’ was first coined by Nascher at the turn of the century, deriving from the Greek geras — old age — and iatros — physician. The work of Dr Marjorie Warren is generally regarded as the basis upon which this ‘branch of general medicine concerned with the clinical, social, preventive and remedial aspects of illness in the elderly’1 has been developed in the UK.
