Abstract
American banks have been among the first to utilise online financial systems, particularly in a global sense. Morgan Guaranty’s MARS was already operating in 1974; Citibank has Marty; Chemical Bank has Chemlink/Banklink; Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company (MHTC) has Geonet. These are private worldwide networks, developed and operated by the financial institutions to which they belong.
