Abstract
There exists a rather significant difference between the perspectives of the late 1980s, such as the preceding two chapters have been discussing, and those of two decades earlier when the online effort started. To understand better where we are and where we are going, as well as the opportunities and constraints which we are facing, it is always helpful to turn to the past and look at how we started and what has been achieved through steady effort.
