Abstract

A vector is a quantity which has length (magnitude) and direction. A simple translation (or displacement) is a vector quantity. The notation AB, \(\overrightarrow {AB}\) a will be used. In this book, a vector will be represented by a simple column vector, e.g.

$$\overrightarrow {OA} = \left( {\frac{3}{2}} \right)$$

represents the vector \(\overrightarrow {OA}\) shown in Fig. 7.1. Note that 3 and 2 are called the components.
