Abstract

Like other western European countries, France has experienced something of a leisure boom in recent years and a great increase in the number of people who participate actively in some sort of sporting activity. The schools have been slow to adapt to this change, for French schools traditionally did not concern themselves much with physical activity. The first passage tells how this attitude has been slow to change, but the second passage and the dialogue give the other side of the picture.
