Abstract

When a body is in equilibrium, the resultant force on it is zero and the sum of the clockwise moments about a point is equal to the sum of the anticlockwise moments about the same point. In Fig. 4.1 a beam is balanced at its centre point. Using the measurements shown in the diagram,

Clockwise moment = Anticlockwise moment = 12 N m.

clockwise moment = 2N×6m= 12Nm anticlockwise moment = 3N×4m= 12 Nm
