Abstract
Dear Sir,
Referral: Michael Abbott—age, 11 years 9 months
Since starting at St Martin’s Secondary School 6 months ago, concern has been growing among the teaching staff regarding this child’s behaviour and general performance. He is unpopular with his peers because of his argumentative and aggressive manner and has as a result become very isolated.
‘A child’s problems are manifested in behaviour that disrupts the routine of his daily living, his relationships with his parents and family, and sometimes the affairs of the community. The disturbance created by the child is his way of saying he needs help.’ (Topalis and Aguilera, 1978).
