Abstract

In 1897 I was in London awaiting the publication of my first English book, on The Origin and Growth of Plato’s Logic.1 I thought then that I was the only living Pole who attempted to write in English. I knew nothing of Almayer’s Folly, nor of An Outcast of the Islands, which had been published in 1895 and 1896, but which had to wait until 1907 for the first re-impression.
