Abstract
The Swedish army is based on general conscription. All able-bodied men between 18 and 47 years of age are liable for military service. Every year about 40 000 young conscripts are called up for their basic training during an individual length of training from 30 weeks to 15 months depending on the future war assignment. In the yearly refresher training about 100 000 conscripts and officers take part. All training is organised within the framework of a war unit. The leadership principles and pedagogical models are developed from modern sociological and pedagogical research.
