Abstract

From time to time most of us are faced with the problem of a child in the class whose standard of cleanliness/personal hygiene causes us concern. There can be no clear guidance on what is an acceptable or unacceptable standard and much depends on the judgement of the individual teacher. The degree of concern, however, is likely to be influenced by the reaction of the other pupils and their parents. The child involved may be unaware of any problem or may only be made aware by the comments of the other children.
