Abstract

Children differ greatly in the amount of sleep they require to remain happy and healthy. They also differ in the pattern of their sleeping; for example, while some five-year-olds refuse and do not need a nap in the afternoon, others can barely get through the day without one. While insufficient sleep will show itself eventually in increased irritability, crying and tantrums, bad behaviour, and lethargy, too much sleep seems to be a rare problem with young children.
