Abstract

This Unit refers only to the child who would like to have normal friendly relationships with other children but seems unable either to develop or maintain them. Other children do not actively reject him nor do they feel hostile towards him as they do in the case of the rejected child. The child himself does not wish to be isolated or friendless and is most likely to be extremely unhappy and miserable about his lack of friends. This criterion distinguishes him from the isolated self-sufficient child who deliberately withdraws from relationships with other children.
