Abstract

And did Robertson get what he called ‘the right voice’ for the role of Edward when he directed the play again? From many accounts, the answer is yes, although Robertson himself disagrees somewhat; and that production by the Prospect Theatre Company, starring Ian McKellen, was the hit of the 1969 Edinburgh Festival.
