Abstract
Has crime disappeared in communist countries? The answer is, of course, obvious. It is quite clear that crime has not vanished in Soviet style communist societies, and there are no indications that it is going to. Indeed, the last defenders of this unrealistic thesis can be found not in the East where the reality of crime has been sufficiently forceful to necessitate some shifts even in the official pronouncements, but rather, in the West.1
